5/07 - Uniform Return
This is just a reminder to bring your clean uniforms, in a ziploc labeled with your name on it, to the dance room today, 3:30-4:30. If you have a free 7th and would like to drop your uniform in Kim Cave's office after 6th period, I will pick it up there.
Thanks,
Karen Moulds
P.S. If there are some parents available during that time period, I would love some help!
5/07
If you qualified on, we will be practicing at the normal start time today. Please be on the track at 3:45.
Qualifying for SCVAL is a big accomplishment and we would love for everyone to compete. However, if you need to take the Euro AP test on Friday we understand. If you would like to reschedule the exam there is potential to do so. If you choose this option please let me know and I will help set it up with the administration. There is an extra $53.00 charge if you choose to reschedule.
If you are in a 4x100 relay or another event at the beginning of the meet it would be very helpful if the test could be rescheduled.
We are proud that so many athletes qualified on for SCVAL, congrats! We would love for all of you to compete but understand if you need to take the exam.
Thanks.
Dave

5/04 - SAT Conflicts
Please note that if you are scheduled to take an afternoon AP test on Friday May 11th please check to see if your test conflicts with the SCVAL Qualifier. You might have to reschedule your exam. If you're on the 4x100 relay team, you probably have a conflict here.
Thanks.
If you are unsure if you qualified please e-mail your event coach. Some people may be close to sneaking in even if you did not make the final.
5/04 - Saturday Practice
Distance runners who have qualified for the SCVAL Finals will be practicing at 11:45am tomorrow. For those distance runners whose official season is over, but want to compete in the SCVAL open mile, you should come to practice as well.
Coach Dan
5/04 - Uniform Return Information
Congratulations to everyone on a great season and good luck to those who are still competing!!
I will be collecting uniforms on Monday, May 7, from 3:30-4:30, in the dance room. Please wash your uniform and bring it in a ziploc bag with your name on it. If you have a free 7th, you can drop your uniform (in the ziploc with your name), in Kim Cave's office and I will collect it from there.
Parents, I could use a little help checking off the uniforms against the yellow cards. If anyone is free, I would love your company :)
To the athletes who are still competing, can you deliver your uniforms, washed and labeled in the ziploc, to Kim Cave' office when you are done?
Thanks and good luck at SCVAL!!,
Karen Moulds

Boys 4x100 finished 3rd with a time of 44.97. The team was made up of Will Sheetz, Willem Van Eck, Chris Tien and Tyler Polen.
1600m Terrence Rabuzzi placed 2nd (4:26.21), Austin Bowie 5th (4:31.26) and Josh Cohen 7th (4:33.65).

Tyler Polen placed 8th to qualify on to the next round in a VERY difficult heat of the 100m (11.81). Will Sheetz also placed 8th overall (23.60). In a normal year Los Altos boy sprinters would have been at the top of the league. However, the De Anza league is fierce this year. Palo Alto has created a powerhouse group of sprinters. I am proud of our boys for placing in the final and for moving on to SCAVAL. I am excited to see if they can sneak into CCS.
The boys placed 2nd overall and finished 2nd in the league behind Paly. It was a great end to an exciting regular season. Our boys looked mentally focused and fought hard in every event.
The girls had a good day as well

Congratulations to everyone on some awesome performances today at the De Anza League Finals! A lot of athletes finished their seasons with some huge PR's, and we had many athletes come through really big to qualify for the SCVAL Finals, which will be next Friday, May 11th at Santa Clara High School.
Meet results can be found here...
Coach Dave says that all sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and throwers do not have practice tomorrow. However, all the distance runners that qualified for the SCVAL Finals (Terence, Austin, Josh, Claire, Anneliese, Arthur, Louise, Lydia, Dane K., Alex C., and Gregory) will be practicing tomorrow at the normal time, and will also be practicing on Saturday (time to be determined). If you are a distance runner who is planning on running the open Mile at the SCVAL meet, you should also continue to practice.

Despite the cold and the wind we moved a bunch of people on to the final!
Tomorrow we will have practice at the normal start time. It has come to my attention that many of you have a wind ensemble concert tomorrow and will need to leave early. It will be a short practice tomorrow, but if you need to leave before 5pm please make sure you are at the track warming up by 3:30.
Remember even if you did not make the final there is always a chance of being scratched in so lets prepare like you made it!
Thanks to all of those who volunteered today! Remember volunteering is mandatory and if you did not show-up today to contribute you were marked absent. Please make sure that you are on the track supporting your teammates and volunteering on Thursday. Athletes and volunteers will once again be dismissed at 1:45pm. If you did not show up today you can make up for your absence by showing up on the track tomorrow at 3:45 and help with tasks to set-up for Thursday.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Dave

Hi LATF,
Tomorrow is league trials. Please remember even if you are not competing it is mandatory that you come out and volunteer. All athletes and volunteers will be dismissed at 1:45pm tomorrow. The meet starts at 3:00pm.
Also, we really need a PARENT volunteer to help collect money on both Tuesday and Thursday. We would really like the parent to show-up at 2:00 if possible. If a couple of parents are available it would be great to have shifts. Please let me know if you would be willing to step-up
For the schedule of events please see the middle column.
Also, for event entries for Tuesday please see the following link. This includes lanes and heats.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi LATF,
The dual meet season has come to an end. Yesterday was really great! There were many PR's on the day. I was especially impressed with the Varsity boys one, two, three finish in the 2mile!
Los Altos has a very rich track & field history and anytime a school record falls it is a huge accomplishment! Yesterday Catherine Li broke the school record in the Triple Jump recording a 38' 5.75". GOOD JOB CATHERINE!
Overall it was a tough day in most divisions. However, the VB were able to pull off the win to end the season at 5-1. Although the other three divisions lost I think we all need to take a moment to look at how far we have come as a team and individuals. Almost everyone has gotten a PR at some point this season! There have been huge improvements across the board in technique, strength, power and running ability, congrats to all athletes!
Also we are going to send out all league entries a bit later today. Keep checking your e-mails!
Throwers and Sprinters/hurdlers have the day off. Please try to do 20min of active recovery!
Jumpers and distance runners still have practice
Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be practice for the sprinters/hurdlers at 9am. If you are competing in the league meet please do your best to attend.
Dave

I also want to add that the boys 4x1600m relay team of Austin Bowie, Terence Rabuzzi, Dane Kreisman, and Josh Cohen ran a 17:59.78, which is a 4:29 average for 1600m, and the 30th fastest 4x1600m relay time IN THE ENTIRE NATION so far this spring track season!!! Congratulation to the boys...

4/23 - Stay Hydrated!
A couple things...
First, did any lose their watch at practice today?
Next, it has been getting hot recently, and we really really need to make sure we stay well hydrated. Drink lots of water all day, every day. That means stop at the water fountain between each class, or carry around a water bottle and constantly keep it filled.
Coach Dan
4/23
Congrats on a great weekend of competition! As always we will have practice this week. As we have mentioned for some of you this will be your last track meet of the season. Thursday is a home meet vs. Gunn. If you do not qualify for league championships you are still expected to volunteer at the event. Volunteering will be mandatory on both Tuesday and Thursday of next week. We will provide more info at our team meeting.
Also, I just wanted to point out that many team members have been receiving unexcused absences that will negatively impact their grade. Please be aware of this when grades come out at the end of the quarter. If you have a serious issue you would like to discuss please feel free to contact us, Coach Gerri handles attendance.
On to the good stuff....
We saw some truly incredible performances this weekend!
At the top 8 meet
Catherine place third in the triple jump (37-06) and third in the 100m (12.46)
Claire had a huge PR in the 800m 2:18.56 placing 6th overall
Dylan Zorn also had a huge PR placing 7th in the 400m F/S division
Congrats to all competitors! It is an honor just to get into the top 8 meet and compete!
Down South the competition was hot! We saw some crazy fast times including a 9.85 100m by Walter Dix.
Los Altos had some very strong performances!
Both the boys and girls 4xmile looked very strong!
Boys finished 10th in the Invitational section with a 17:59.78
The team was Terrence, Dane, Josh and Austin!
The girls 4xmile ran a great race as well finishing 8th in the open division and running 23:02.72
Good job Annaleise, Louise, Claire, Lydia!
Danny Yeager WON the boys seeded HJ with a PR at 6ft 6
Markell Stine finished 4th in the 110h invitational with a huge PR running 14.50
To end the day both 4x4 team set big PR's
the boys ran the 6th fastest time in CCS (3:31.06) and the girls moved into the top 12 times in CCS (4:12.41)
GOOD JOB EVERYONE

We have our final home track meet on April 26th and that means it is also our Track Senior Recognition Ceremony. I'm needing a photographer (Freshman, Sophomore or Junior parent) who would be willing to arrive by 2:30 to capture some candids and then at 3:00 for the ceremony (taking photos of our seniors walking up the 50 yard line with their parents).
Please let me know ASAP if you can assist with this. Thank you and GO EAGLES! Susan Klepper

Hello distance runners,
Here is the plan for the next few days...
As you all know, some athletes are running at Mt. SAC this weekend, some are running at Top 8, but the majority of athletes are not racing this weekend. Because of the two meets this weekend, there will be no coaches around for practice on Friday or Saturday. So we are not having official practice on Friday or Saturday, but I would still like everyone who is not racing this weekend to come to the track after school Friday as if there were practice, and do everything just as if there were coaches there. The workouts for Friday and Saturday are as follows...
Friday - Fartlek run - 40 minute run as follows - 11 minute easy jog, then go right into the Fartlek which will be 2 x 2 min hard, 3 x 1 min hard, and 4 x 30 sec hard. After each hard segment, go right into an easy jog of the same amount of time as the hard segment. So the workout will go like this - 11 minutes easy, 2 min hard, 2 min easy, 2 min hard, 2 min easy, 1 min hard, 1 min easy, 1 min hard, 1 min easy, 1 min hard, 1 min easy, 30 sec hard, 30 sec easy, 30 sec hard, 30 sec easy, 30 sec hard, 30 sec easy, 30 sec hard, 11 minutes easy cool down. 8 strides and static stretching should follow the run.
Saturday - For those runners expecting to qualify past De Anza League Finals (which is probably just Alex Carr and Sophia Steffens for the runners not racing this weekend), you two should do a long run. For everyone else, you are now beginning your taper phase. Today will be an easy run, but go one mile less than the regular easy runs you have been doing this season. For example, if your normal easy run was most commonly 6 miles, then do 5 miles today. The frosh/soph boys competing at Top 8 on Friday should also do an easy run today as well. 8 strides and static stretching should follow the run.
Coach Dan
4/18 - Mt. Sac
For the athletes competing at Mt. Sac this weekend.
Please remember to bring your uniforms, shoes, sun block, swim suit, identification, money for food, and souvenirs.
The weather is suppose to be 90 degrees both days so it is going to be way warmer than we are use to right now, so be sure to hydrate now, and during the ride to Pomona.
We will be staying at the Shilo Inn Hotel at 3200 W. Temple Ave. Pomona Ca 909-598-0073 The first van will be leaving Los Altos at 4:00p Thursday with the following passengers:
Coach Dave, Coach Dan, Austin, Terence, Dane, and Josh.
The second van will be leaving Los Altos at 6am Friday with Gerri, Charles, Danny, Markell, Sarah, and Arthur.
The third van will be leaving Los Altos at 2p with Mrs. Steffens, Coach Andrew, Louise, Lydia, Anneliese and Paige.

Catherine finished 3rd overall in the TJ and ran a great 100m just missing the final .1
Danny and Markell tore up the hurdles! Markell ran what is now the 5th fastest time in the United States for high school track & field in the 400mh and Danny is ranked 22nd in the US! Not bad boys!!!
Markell also made the final in the 110h and placed in the top 3
Sarah got 3rd in her heat in the 400m dash setting a pr for the season!
Congats to all. See you on the track.

4/08 - Spring Break Workouts and Schedule Change
Schedule change: Monday the 16th is our meet against Mountain View High. This is the first day after spring break, so please come prepared - bring your spikes and whatever else you need to compete!
Yes, spring break is here, and yes, we still have practice. Coach Dan has published a workout schedule for Distance Runners and Coach Dave Barth has published a workout schedule for sprinters. They will both be at the track throughout the week as well.
4/08 - Stanford Recap
Hello Los Altos Distance runners,
First of all, a huge congratulations goes out to all who competed at the Stanford Invitational this weekend. Every single distance runner who competed got at least one PR or a season best. A recap of the distance runners races...
-Claire Bowie had a huge PR in the 1200m leg of the DMR, running 4:00.9
-Anneliese Gallagher ran PR's in the 800 (2:37.9) and 400 (67.1)
-Louise Stephan PR'ed in the 800 on Friday (2:37.4), and then PR'ed again in the 800 on Saturday (2:35.5)
-Lydia Vieraitis ran her season best time in the 1600 (5:43.3)
-Lauren Waller ran her season best time in the 800 (2:41.0)
-Terence Rabuzzi ran two PR's in the 1200m leg of the DMR (3:13.9), and the 800 (2:00.7)
-Arthur Bogdanovich PR'ed in the 400 (53.4)
-Josh Cohen ran a PR in the 800 on Friday (2:03.5), followed by a PR in the full Mile on Saturday (4:27.86 - equivalent to a 4:26.26 for 1600m)
-Austin Bowie ran a PR in the full Mile (4:22.84 - equivalent to a 4:21.24 for 1600m)
-Rishi Bhargava ran a season best time of 2:08.1 in the 800
-Dane Kreisman ran a season best time of 2:06.8 in the 800
I'll let Coach Dave handle the recaps of the sprinters, but 2 very notable performances were Markell Stine winning the 400m Hurdles overall in 54.73, and Danny Yaeger running a very impressive 56.89 in the 400m Hurdles. I believe Coach Dave said both of these marks are ranked top 15 in the entire country for the 400m Hurdles!
Videos of all of the distance races can be found by clicking on the following link and scrolling down about 1/3 of the way down the page...
I will send another email out very shortly with the workout schedule for spring break...

4/05 - Milpitas Recap
Another great day on the track! Despite the cold and windy weather we still had some awesome performances!
As coaches there was lots to be proud of! We saw some great team spirit and lots of PR's from all divisions! CONGRATS!
Jerri Liu had a big jump in TJ!
Almost all of the throwers set a PR on the day!!!
Michelle Staufenbiel won the JV girls 400m!
THERE WAS LOTS TO BE PROUD OF - CONGRATS!
The VG, VB and FSB all won their division to improve to 3-1! Unfortunately the JV girls lost, but only because we moved up a majority of the JV girl sprinters so that they could help the VG win! Congrats to all on an awesome day!!
Yes, we do have practice next week!
Sprinters, Jumpers and Throwers will be practicing at the normal time 3:45! More info on distance and hurdles to come soon!
If you are on vacation you still NEED to workout. Many of you will be in places where you do not have access to a track. Anything is better then nothing but the closer you follow the workouts, the more success you will have upon return. You can still find ways to do interval training on bikes, treadmills, the beach etc. Do your best and be innovative if necessary!
For anyone going to Stanford Invite on Saturday we are expecting you to get a ride with your parents! The meet is located on the Stanford University Track. All 4x100's need to be at the track no later then 7:45am. Remember you will need to call a coach or teammate to get a wristband to be let in. The main athlete entrance is located by pac-12 plaza. If you walk around the track you will see a bunch of giant flag poles, this is the main athlete entrance.
If anyone needs a ride to the meet please let me know. I will be picking up a small group from the school at 7:20am.
Stay focused and keep working hard!
Dave
4/4 - Stanford Invite
We are looking for a parent who is certified to drive by the district to take their minivan to the Stanford Invite on Friday. We will be departing at 1:15pm sharp. We have 6 passengers who will need a ride. Two parents with cars would work out nicely as well! Please let me know by the end of the day if you could drive. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Attached to this e-mail is the meet schedule for both Friday & Saturday. The Stanford Invitational is a very fun and competitive meet! This is a great meet to come watch if you did not qualify. It is only a 10min drive from LAHS & you get to see some great high school and collegiate competition.
For the Saturday portion of the meet the coaches will drive anyone who needs a ride from LAHS at 7:15am. Many athletes are competing at 9am! With this in mind if you get a ride you MUST be at the track by 7:45am. In order to enter the meet you will need to be wearing the Stanford Invite wristband. The coaches will have the wristbands with us. Please make sure to call your event coaches cell phone when you arrive at the meet so that we can let you in. My cell phone is 650.823.5167. Usually we set up a tent under the trees on the back straight of the track, so if you call one of your teammates they may be able to let you in as well. Please make sure you arrive 75min before your event! Stanford tends to run on time. However, there is always lots of commotion! They also tend to put you in the holding area for a long time before your event actually goes off so you want to arrive early to get warmed up.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Dave
4/4 - Saratoga Results
Results are in and its official. LAHS won all 4 divisions against Saratoga on Thursday to improve to 2-1. Congrats! As coaches we were very pleased with not only how our team performed but how we acted. For the most part, everyone remembered to support LAHS and wore blue and silver! I saw many kids cheering on their teammates instead of doing homework! THANK YOU! Lets continue to support our teammates!! There were many fantastic performances on the day!! The VB were dominant winning all but one running event on the day (the field event marks have still not been posted quite yet). Congrats to all boys on a great day and a special congrats to Chip and Arthur for breaking 54 in the 400m! Markell and Danny also ran the 2nd and 3rd fastest time in CCS in the 300h...not bad boys! The girls also had many impressive performances Claire easily captured the 800m with an impressive time of 2:23! Catherine won the 100m in 12.70!
Oakland was a very cold wet day for all! However, both the VB and VG competed admirably! Congrats to Anna McShane for a 2 second pr in the 400m and Josh Cohen for running under 10min in the 2mile!!
Tonight is a Pasta Feed! Please be polite to the parents! They have put lots of time and energy into making this happen for all of you!

Please remember to bring plenty of warm clothing and rain gear. It is always a good idea to bring a large plastic bag to put your clothes in to keep them dry if it does rain.
Throwers bring towels to dry and clean your implements.

3/28 - Saratoga Tomorrow
As most of you should know by now we lost in all 4 divisions to Palo Alto. However, we still have lots to be proud of! There were some very impressive performances throughout the meet! The race that sticks out the most in my mind was the boys 400m where Markell fought to the finish against EJ Floreal. It was an epic battle but unfortunately EJ's height and long stride prevailed in the last 20m of the race. Still a great PR for Markell!
Los Altos took 1st-5th place in the JV girls shot put! Congrats Khaoula, Veronica, Alexandra, Sabrina and Gabrielle!
Josh and Alex placed first and second in the two mile!
Catherine Li edged out PA in the 100m for first
The VB went 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the 110m Hurdles. Danny also won the 300h and jumped 21ft in LJ!!!
Dylan Zorn took 1st place in his first ever 400m race with a 55.61
There were many other fantastic performances on the day! Congats to everyone
Tomorrow we will head to Saratoga for our first away dual meet of the season. Busses will leave at 1:30pm, which means everyone should be ready to load the bus by 1:15pm. We hope all student-athletes can stay for the entire meet. However, if you have finished competing in all of your events and must go home then you may check out with one of the coaches. You may only go home with one of your parents. The weather should be very nice out tomorrow!! With this in mind all athletes should still be wearing sweats. Please wear LAHS colors only. We do not want to be wearing green, yellow, orange, pink. We are blue and white (grey). Please wear school issued gear! Also, bring plenty of water and snacks! Your body needs food and water to function!! Sunscreen would be quite helpful as well!
On Saturday we will head to Berkeley for the Oakland Relays. Entries are here. The meet is held at Edwards Stadium on the UC Berkeley campus. I know many of you are eager to see what events you have been entered in please view attached, also more info can be viewed about the meet at http://www.oaklandrelays.org/. YOU MUST fill out the following waiver and bring it with you on Saturday ( Click here for the waiver) . This waiver must be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian in order to compete on Saturday!
Should be a great day on the track tomorrow! Lets stay focused, have fun and do the best we can!

3/24 - Distance Runners...
For those of you who were not able to come to practice today, it would be great if you could get the workout in on your own. Those who were there did have to do the workout in the cold downpoor. The workout is as follows...
-Warmup
-2x1600 @ 5k Race Pace w/ 1:00 rest in between - Yes the rest is very short.
-1 mile easy jog recovery
-2x800 @ 2400m Race Pace (somewhere in the middle of 1600 and 3200 race pace), w/ 1:00 rest in between
-1 mile easy jog recovery
-2x400 @ 1000m Race Pace (slightly slower than 800m Race pace), w/ 1:00 rest in between
-Cool down
Those with shorter mileage goals can skip the 2x400's at the end (just do 2x1600 and 2x800).
Enjoy the weekend off w/ no track meet, and I'll see everyone on Monday.
Coach Dan
3/19 - Minimum Days
A few people have inquired about practice time during the minimum days (Wednesday and Thursday). You should speak with your event coach at practice tomorrow but I would assume that we are all going to stick with the normal practice times. We will be having a mandatory team meeting on Wednesday at 3:45 in the bleachers. We will be taking attendance as always! Following the meeting and practice we will have a pasta feed!!!
Thursday we are competing at home and we will continue to follow protocol. Everyone should be on the track in uniform and sweats at 2pm. There is no excuse for anyone being late since this is a minimum day.
Practices are going well and it seems like all athletes are starting to get into a rhythm. It is really great to see everyone working hard!
Saturday was a cold windy day on the track at both Kezar and Dublin. However, this did not stop our athletes who participated from putting up some great marks. I have not seen the results from Dublin quite yet. However, it is official the Varsity Boys (56pts) took first place at the Big Cat Relays edging out Oakland Tech (54) and Mills (52). Hopefully they mail us the trophy! Congrats boys! All around there were some really great performances and LOTS of PR's in the 100m in all divisions. A huge congrats to Chris Tien for running a 11.54 in the 100m!!!!
Have a great night!
Dave
3/16 - Big Cat Relay information
http://www.cifsf.org/Information/BigCatsMeetProgram2012.pdf
Even with the potential downpour we have a chance to compete for some serious medals and meet records! Rest up!
Some sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and throwers will be heading to the Big Cat Relays in San Francisco on Saturday. The track meet will take place at Kezar Stadium. We will have a bus heading both ways. The bus will depart LAHS at 6:45am and will return upon completion of the meet. Parents are welcome to drive their kids to and from the meet.
The first event is at 9am and the rest of the meet is on a rolling schedule.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please remember to bring plenty of healthy food and water! Also, please bring lots of warm clothes. Bringing extra dry clothes would be a good idea. It could be a very wet track meet.
Dave
3/14
This message is for the distance runners. We will be competing this Saturday at the Dublin Distance Fiesta at Dublin High School in Dublin. All other athletes will be competing at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. The bus for Dublin will leave at 10:00am on Saturday, and the first event will go off at 12:20pm. Please remember to bring healthy food and snacks to the meet, as sometimes these snack shacks at the meets don't have healthy options to choose from, and pizza and hot dogs are not what you want to eat before a race (it's not what you want to be eating at any time actually, but especially not on race day). The following is the schedule for Saturday's meet:
12:20 - Girls 1600
1:20 - Boys 1600
3:20 - Girls 800
4:10 - Boys 800
5:35 - Girls 3200
6:25 - Boys 3200
8:25 - Girls Distance Medley Relay
8:45 - Boys Distance Medley Relay
If you are running in a later event such as the 3200, it would probably be beneficial for you to get a ride to the meet so that you don't have to wait around in the sun all day which will drain your energy.
The following link lists the heats everybody is assigned to within their event. For example, if you are in the 1st heat of the Girls 800, your race is scheduled to go off at 3:20. If you are in the 6th heat of the Girls 800, which is in right about the middle of the 12 heats that are listed, then you will be running around 3:45, which is about halfway between the start of the Girls 800 and Boys 800. If you are getting a ride to the meet, please try to arrive no later than an hour and a half before the race. This is because the meet director has said that it is very possible that they will get ahead of schedule, and if they do, they plan on remaining ahead of schedule. If you are getting a ride, and you want to contact me to figure out if the meet is running ahead of schedule or behind schedule, you can call or text me at 413-563-8618.
Here is a link to the heat sheets which will say which heat of each event everybody is running in. Click on your event on the left, and search for your name in the heats...
http://adkinstrakwest.com/Meet_Results/20120317/
This is a fun meet that will go into the night time. When it gets dark, they will put the lights on, and have the music playing over the loud speakers during the races. This also means the bus is going to get back to school pretty late. If we decide not to run any Distance Medley Relay's, the bus will get back to the school around 9:30pm. If we do run Distance Medley Relays's, which we'll decide that day, the bus will get back to the school around 10:00pm. If you need to get back earlier, please make sure you arrange for a ride. Dublin is only 45 minutes away.
Coach Dan
3/14 - Snack Shack Volunteers
We need snack shack volunteers for 2-shifts, two people per shift.
- 1st shift=2:00pm-4:00pm
- 2nd shift=4:00pm -6:00pm
If you can help, please contact Kathleen Wilson at kwilson "at" apr.com
3/14 - Picture Day Tomorrow!
Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Thursday March 15th is the Team Picture Day.
Please have your athlete bring their uniform and photography envelopes with payment.
Photography envelopes were distributed yesterday, more envelopes will be available this afternoon at practice.
Thanks,
Nanette Wobber
3/12 - Picture Day
Well its official we now get an extra hr of sunlight!!! On Thursday we will have our annual team picture day. Athletes should wear their uniforms to practice. The coaches will be distributing picture forms tomorrow.
It was another awesome weekend on the track for LATF! The day started with an outstanding performance by the Varsity Boys taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the 2mile! This was a relay event where all the times were added up and overall Los Altos got first. The FSB won many events and got 2nd in quite a few as well. As a team the FSB finished 2nd place overall! In the girls division we had many athletes compete at the varsity level for the first time and hold their own. Across the board the girls did great! One performance that stood out was a 20ft personal record for Alexandra. Congrats to all!
This week we do not have a competition on Thursday. I just wanted to let all the sprinters know that with an extra hr of sunlight I will be staying late on the track to work with people on technique and starting blocks. Please let me know if you are interested in joining. I am going to to limit the number of people to 5 per session.
Dave

Thank you to all the parents who came out yesterday to volunteer! The meet could not take place without you!!!!

3/1 - Optional Team Warm-Ups Information
Hi all,
I am taking care of the orders for the optional team warm-ups and
compression shorts. You can view the warm-ups and shorts on the attachment to this email.
The order form is also attached.
The warmup jacket will be personalized--it will have embroidery on the
front, upper left chest area and will include "Los Altos", the eagle
mascot and the athlete's first initial and last name. All items will be
royal blue with white accents. Here are the costs:
- Jacket $65
- Pants $42
- Women's boycut shorts $22
- Men's compression shorts $30
Remember that none of these items are required to compete, so purchase
is optional. The warmups can be used for any future track and cross
country seasons, although if you already have warmups, there is no need
to purchase these new items. Some athletes like competing in
compression shorts, so we are taking orders to satisfy that interest as well.
All order forms AND payments are due next Friday, March 9th. Payment for
the apparel needs to be turned in to the bookkeeper. The receipt of
payment (or the check itself) must be turned in to me along with the
order form. Checks should be made out to "LAHS" with "track warm-ups"
and your athlete's name noted on the memo line. I will be at the meet
on Thursday, March 8th and at the end of practice on Friday, March 9th to
pick up order forms and checks or receipts. The shorts should be received by
March 16th. The warm-ups will take an extra week since they are being embroidered.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Go Eagles,
Susan Klepper - susanklepper "at" hotmail.com
2/28 - Contracts and More...
Hello,
Happy Tuesday evening!
We have a big 10 day stretch ahead of us beginning tomorrow with uniform pick-up from 2:30-3:45 at the dance studio!
On Saturday some members of the team will be heading to the East Bay Invitational at Monte Vista High School in Danville. We will be providing bus transportation both ways. Departure time is set for 6:45AM from LAHS. The bus will return around 7pm. Parents, you may drive your athlete to the meet or pick them up from the meet BUT they must arrive 75min prior to the start of their event. We expect all athletes to be on the bus unless we hear otherwise. The weather for Saturday should be fairly warm. However, please dress appropriately! Bring lots of layers! Also, be sure to bring plenty of food and water for the day! Also, it probably would not hurt to bring some homework or playing cards. If you are participating on a relay please coordinate with your teammates to make sure you are wearing matching spandex. Most people own black spandex but I know some teams prefer to go with blue, we will address this in more detail at practice tomorrow during the team meeting. The following link will take you to the East Bay Invite website where you can see what time each event is scheduled to begin http://www.ebi.srvusd.net/. Please see the attached document for meet entries. If something does not look right let your event coach know immediately.
Contracts: We have still only received about 50% of the contracts. If you do not turn your contract in then you will not compete in the first dual meet and your grade will be negatively impacted. A copy of the contract is here.
Yes, we still practice in the rain! If it is an absolute downpour we will try to find a dry location. However, in light rain we still hurdle, throw, jump and run! ALL ATHLETES should be bringing spikes to practice EVERY DAY. The sprinting group will be having a 100m run-off at some point between tomorrow and Monday to determine the 4x100 relay teams (more info to come at practice tomorrow).
Thank you for reading. As always please let us know if you have any questions. I am proud of all the work we have put in and I'm excited to see everyone compete in the next 10 days!

p.s. A bit of inspiration... Is the first 40seconds of this what yo guys talked about doing for the team cheer this year?
2/27 - Uniform Handouts Wednesday
We wil be handing out uniforms this coming Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 2:45 in the dance room by Ms. Cave's office. This year there will be no checks, students will fill out a yellow card that will be a receipt for their uniform. We will hand them out when they show up to get their uniform.
Parents, I also need 6 volunteers to help with distribution. This is a lot of fun! You get to meet all of the students and talk with some of the parents while handing out uniforms. You will need to come at 2pm for set up and we will probably be done by 4pm I really appreciate the help as we have approximately 170 athletes. Please let me know who is available!
Coaches, I will also be available at 3:30 in the dance room on Thursday, March 1st (as there is a class in there until that time) if there is anyone who ABSOLUTELY cannot make it on Wednesday. However, please encourage your students to pick up on Wednesday because on Thursday we will only have 15 minutes to hand out uniforms before practice starts.
Thank you so much,
Karen Mould
2/24 - No Distance Workout Saturday
Hello Los Altos Distance Runners,
We will not be having practice tomorrow. So please make sure you run on your own, anywhere from 4.5 - 8.5 miles. Our long run for next week will be on Tuesday rather than tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your break, and remember that our first meet is in one week from tomorrow.
Coach Dan
Feb 24 - Friday's Throws Practice
Ppractice will start at 9:30a with warm ups and conditioning. If you want to throw after 10:30 Coach Barth will be at LAHS to open the shed.
Thanks
Gerri
Feb 22 - Today's Workout
Jumps Practice for week of winter break will be:
Wednesday - after the boys ccs soccer game (around 4:30)
Friday - 4:30
Plans will change depending on who shows up, but I want to get all
jumps in this week so that next week we can start measuring approaches
and getting full runs in. Bring spikes to practice. If you can't make
it to my jump practices then you need to be at sprint practice and if
you go to both, than I will account for that.
Andrew
Also, please see below for a great video on how to run the 100m. ALSO, see attached photo on drive proper drive phase form. Look at the difference in the athletes hips.
(watch the video all the way through but especially focus on 3:50 into the video on)
Feb 20 - Workout Tomorrow!

Feb 17 - Distance Runner's Workout
Hello Los Altos track distance runners,
The distance runners will be practicing at 10:30am Monday - Friday this week, meeting at the Los Altos track. If you are going to be away, and have not already told me, please let me know. If you are not going away, you do need to attend practice. If you are going away, please make sure you follow the workout schedule below. Running over break is extremely important. If you don't run, you will lose all the fitness you've gained so far this season, and you will be at the same point you were at on the first day of practice. That would mean you would have attended 3 weeks of practice for nothing because you would be losing all that fitness, so please please make sure you get your running in if you are not going to be around to attend practice.
The full workout schedule and e-mail note from coach Dan can be seen here
Feb 17 - Saturday practice
Hello Los Altos distance runners,
Tomorrow (Saturday), we will be having a highly encouraged practice at 9:00am. We will be running the trails of Rancho San Antonio Park, and we will meet and park at Montclaire Elementary School, located at 1160 Saint Joseph Ave in Los Altos. If you can not make it, please do some running on your own. In addition, the distance runners will be meeting at 10:30am Monday - Friday for practice during break, and I will be sending another detailed email with the week's workouts later tonight.

Feb 16 - Transportation Fee
Hi all , Just a reminder that everyone needs to pay the $100 transportation fee for Track
and Field. Make checks payable to: Los Altos High School-Athletic Dept. and submit
payment to the Finance Office. Please print student's name, student number and sport
on the check. Remember that you need to pay this fee for each sport your student plays. Without having paid the transportation fee, your athlete may not purchase a bid to the Sadies dance and any future activities, so please take care of it. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact me or athletic director Kim Cave (Kim.Cave@mvla.net)

Hi LA T&F,
I hope your weekend is going well!
Two weeks in and we, the coaches, are very impressed! Keep up the good work!
Remember that we host practices over vacation and everyone is expected to attend. All it takes is 3 or 4 days of doing nothing and all of your hard work is gone down the drain.Yes, its not fair but its just how fitness works.
VERY TENTATIVEFebruary 20th-24th practice times.
Keep your eyes out for updated times later in the week. I just wanted to give athletes/parents an idea of general practice times.
- Distance runners: 10:30am Monday-Friday
- Hurdlers: TBA
- Jumpers: TBA
- Sprinters: Monday- 2:00pm Tuesday-Friday @ 10:30am
- Throwers: Monday-Friday @ 3:45
Tomorrow (MONDAY) is our team trial day.
All athletes will have the opportunity to jump, run and throw. Please bring spikes if you own them!
(to the new members of the team... you do not wear spikes in warm-ups; only workouts and competition)
TEAM CONTRACT:
The team contract MUST be signed and returned ASAP. The team contract can be found here.
Hopefully, everyone is completely cleared by now. If you are still confused about where to find the concussion form here is the link to download it. You must turn this in before you can practice with the team. Concussion Form is here. There is another link to the form in the middle column on this page.
See all of you tomorrow.

Feb 10
Hello LA distance runners,
We will be having an optional / highly encouraged practice tomorrow. We will be meeting at 9:30am and will be running the trails at Huddart Park in Woodside. We're going to be meeting / parking about a mile or so outside of the park at "The Little Store", and then running inside the park from there. The address of "The Little Store" is 3340 Woodside Rd, Woodside, CA 94062. Woodside Road is also the same road as Rt. 84. If you are traveling west on 84, The Little Store is almost half a mile past Woodside Elementary School, which is where we've met before when running at Huddart Park.
In addition, the following is a reminder to all track athletes, but also a message that I forgot to mention to the distance runners today. On Monday, if it is not raining, we will be having a common time trial where every athlete on the team competes in all the same time trials. There will be a sprinting time trial, a distance time trial, a jumping trial, and a throwing trial. Whether you are a sprinter, distance runner, jumper, or thrower, everybody will be competing in each time trial. It will be a good way for all the athletes to get a chance to try out some different events to see if the other events interest them at all, and a good way for the coaches to assess if there was, for example, a great thrower that has only been doing sprinting that we never knew could throw. So please bring your spikes on Monday!

Hi LA t&f,
Please remember to have your parents attend our t&f meeting Wednesday night at 6pm in the LAHS library! This will be a brief meeting with lots of important info on the upcoming season.
The coaching staff has been putting in countless hrs outside of our normal practices to ensure this is an incredible season. In return we would really appreciate a few minutes of your parents time.

Hello track and field team!
Great first week!!! Keep pushing yourself, it will pay off come competition time!
IMPORTANT INFO:
Wednesday evening at 6pm in the LAHS library will we have our parent meeting!
This will be a great chance for the parents to meet the coaches, ask questions, learn a bit about track and field, hear about our expectations for the season, and get involved in the Los Altos T&F community! We will make the meeting as short! We appreciate your support!!!
This week there is a chance of rain!!!! YES...rain!
member of t&f team: What does this mean?
member 2 of t&f team: Do we get to go home and sit on Facebook chat instead of training?
YOU WILL BE MARKED ABSENT IF YOU DO NOT SHOW UP FOR PRACTICE EVEN IF IT IS RAINING. Just a reminder 3 unexcused absences and your grades will drop.
The best way to handle the rain is to wear waterproof sweatpants and layers (i.e shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, light rain jacket)
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!! Enjoy the Super Bowl (even though the 49ers are not playing so there is really no point in watching). We looking forward to seeing you at 3:45 tomorrow.

Hey Track Stars!
The following items must be completed before you can start practice:
Blue Card and Physical
AB25 form (concussion form)
Please make sure these are completed and turned into Mrs. Cave prior to the start of practice.
I'm sure we missed many of you at our sign up meeting, so if you are currently in a winter sport please stop by to make sure we have you on the roster, and we will save a place for you, since you can not start track until your season is officially over.
Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather, bring water, sweats, and training shoes.
We have a full coaching staff that is looking forward to a memorable season. We have new meets on the schedule that will give everyone a chance to compete against some different schools and at some fun locations!
Parents we will need a lot of volunteers for the season it takes a small army to ensure our season and meets go smoothly.
So please pass this information on to your kids and parents :)
Thank you,

Jan. 4, 2012
Hello everyone,
One last reminder that we will begin our optional winter conditioning runs tomorrow at 4:00, and we will meet at the Los Altos track. These runs are open to anyone and everyone. We will be meeting every Monday - Friday at 4:00 until the first official practice for Spring track starts which is at the end of January. This is a great way to keep in shape for the track season, or for another sport if you are participating in a different spring sport. I encourage everyone to come as often as possible, but if you don't want to or are not able to meet every day, that is certainly okay as well.
Every day we will just be doing easy distance runs - no hard workouts. In addition, it is a CCS rule that we do not do drills as part of our winter conditioning, so if you would like to do drills to warm yourself up, you should do them on your own before 4:00.
I hope every one had a nice break. Hope to see everyone tomorrow at 4:00.
